Happy Birthday US Air Force!

The VFW salutes all who have worn the uniform of the American airman

WASHINGTON – On Saturday, Sept. 18, 2021, the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) joins in with our grateful nation in celebrating the birthday of the U.S. Air Force, who has protected and defended our country for the past 74 years.

Originally organized as part of the U.S. Army in 1907, the Air Force became a separate military department on this day when a fellow VFW Life member, President Harry S. Truman, signed the National Security Act of 1947. Today, our Air Force remains the most dominant air, space and cyber force in the world, all thanks to the service, sacrifice and integrity of those who have worn Air Force blue.

Today, please join the more than 1.5 million members of the VFW and its Auxiliary in saying ‘thank you’ to every American airman, both past and present, and wishing them a happy 74th birthday!
