Any money received will be used for this purpose and should there be a surplus, it will be held in reserve for future disasters as was done with the VFW’s Katrina Fund.

The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) understands that planning for the future after experiencing the loss of a loved one can be extremely difficult. Many are often unprepared for the loss they’ve endured. Normal feelings of grief and confusion may be compounded if they are also recipients of a large benefit payment.

That’s why VA makes an online will preparation service available at no cost to beneficiaries of Servicemembers’ Group Life Insurance (SGLI), Family SGLI (FSGLI), and Veterans’ Group Life Insurance (VGLI). These services are also available to those who have received payment under the Servicemembers’ Group Life Insurance Traumatic Injury Protection Program (TSGLI)
