At the 114th VFW National Convention in Louisville, Ky., VFW National Military Services (NMS) received over $20,000 in total contributions from 12 VFW Departments and five VFW Posts. Departments and Posts raise money throughout the year from generous VFW members, VFW supporters and fundraising events to present their checks at convention that will support VFW initiatives.
The VFW Departments that made contributions this year include: Arkansas, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Indiana, Kansas, Maryland New Jersey, New York, South Carolina, West Virginia and Washington. The VFW Posts include: Post 63, 1173 and 3646 of Idaho; Post 4666 of Colorado and Post 7686 of New Mexico.
The donations will help fund NMS programs like Operation UplinkTM, Unmet Needs and the Military Assistance Program for the upcoming year. All of these programs are crucial to the VFW’s ability to help military personnel and their families in times of need.
These programs provide services such as allowing troops to make long-distance calls home for free from Kuwait and Afghanistan, helping military personnel and their families pay for basic life needs in times of difficulty, and connecting the VFW with local military units to provide support.
With the contributions from VFW Departments and Posts, the VFW will be better able to carry out its mission of giving back to those who risk their lives and give so much for our freedoms.
