WASHINGTON — In response to president-elect Trump’s intended nomination of Gen. James Mattis to U.S. Secretary of Defense, Brian Duffy, the national commander of the 1.7 million-member Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States and its Auxiliaries, praised the decision to appoint a strategic thinker with a lengthy and respectable record of military service to the high position.
"Our nation has been at war for more than 15 years with no end in sight. It makes perfect sense to put a warfighter in charge of the war fighting,” said Duffy. “The Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States looks forward to working with Gen. James Mattis, and we urge Congress to approve his waiver and confirm him immediately.”
