'Run for the Wall' Riders Receive Warm VFW Welcome

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Today, staff members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the U.S. National Headquarters joined local VFW members in Concordia, Mo., to pay tribute to motorcyclists participating in the annual cross-country “Run for the Wall” motorcycle ride.

Approximately 550 riders stopped to refuel in Concordia on their journey to the Vietnam Memorial in Washington, D.C. The VFW covered the cost to fill up each biker’s tank, a sponsorship totaling more than $3,000. 

Residents of Concordia also joined in to show their appreciation for the riders during the stop. They lined the streets with flags and cheered as the riders entered town, and Concordia, Mo., VFW Post 5649 provided the riders with lunch at a local park before seeing them off. 

“With every tank of gas we’re able to fill up, another rider can continue down the road knowing that the VFW honors and supports them,” said VFW Membership Director Rick Butler. “Sponsoring the fuel stop is a great opportunity to support these veterans and their mission, which promotes healing, calls for the accounting of all POW/MIAs, while honoring the service and sacrifice of our service men and women.”
