A VFW Post and its Auxiliary in the small eastern Colorado town of Penrose collaborated on March 24 with a local non-profit to provide food and water amidst the COVID-19 crisis.
Taking the proper precautions as advised by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Post 2788 assisted My Neighbor’s Cupboard, a Penrose-based non-profit, in providing free food and water for more than 100 families.
The Post allowed its parking lot to become a drive-thru area during the food distribution, using its members to direct traffic while maintaining a safe distance.
The food drive ran for more than three hours, and the Post volunteers were then compensated with a chili dinner prepared by Auxiliary member Michelle Sheridan.
