WASHINGTON — This Saturday is Armed Forces Day, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) joins a grateful nation in in paying tribute to the soldiers, Marines, sailors, airmen, guardians, and Coast Guardsmen who right now are defending freedom both here at home and around the globe.
Conflict seems to be everywhere in the year 2022. From war in the Ukraine to cyber hacking between nation states, from contested airspace over eastern Europe and in the South China Sea to satellite target practice in outer space, it seems every moment we watch, hear, or read about calamity and another new threat to peace. Despite all this, U.S. service members selflessly stand watch for those who would do us harm. Even now, a new generation of people are raising their right hand to serve in defense of our country. They will wear the cloth of our nation and join the more than two million men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces doing what is asked of them – no matter the mission, no matter the location, no matter the cost.
The VFW encourages everyone to take a moment to recognize those wearing the uniform, thanking them for their service and for protecting our democracy and way of life. We owe them a tremendous debt of gratitude for their dedication to duty, courage in commitment, and steadfast vigilance in ensuring the United States and our allies remain free.
