WASHINGTON – The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) joins in with our grateful nation in celebrating the birthday of the U.S. Air Force, who has protected and defended our country by establishing air superiority for the past 76 years.
Originally organized as part of the U.S. Army in 1907, the United States Air Force became a separate military department when a fellow VFW Life member, President Harry S. Truman, signed the National Security Act of 1947. Today, “Big Blue” continues its mission to fly, fight, and win — delivering airpower anytime, anywhere, in defense of our nation, all thanks to the airmen who innovate, accelerate and thrive on behalf of the world’s greatest air force.
Please join the more than 1.4 million members of the VFW and its Auxiliary in saying ‘thank you’ to every American airman, both past and present, and wishing them a happy 76th birthday!
