VFW Post 2113 in De Pere, Wisconsin, fostered the development of a local Boy Scouts member by sponsoring his Eagle Scout project in September.
Boy Scout Troop 1039 member Lucas Beck was joined by Post 2113 members and a few close friends and family on Sept. 23 to present his Eagle Scout project—two flag retirement boxes—to Town of Lawrence and Town of Rockland officials in Brown County, Wisconsin.
“The Post provided guidance and support,” VFW Post 2113 Adjutant General Randy Hansen said. “The flag box retirement project was Lucas’ own idea as a way to honor his deceased father, who was a Town of Lawrence firefighter. We fully funded one of the boxes, while the Town of Lawrence funded the other box — in honor of his father.”
Post 2113 members also coordinated the presentations to coincide with each town’s monthly public meeting, both held in their respective town halls at the end of the month. Each flag retirement box has since been installed and opened to the general public.
Hanson added Post 2113 last funded an Eagle Scout project in 2022, when it helped Scout Jayden Vercauteren beautify a firefighters monument in the nearby Town of Wayside by cleaning its fire bell, pulling weeds, and then planting new flowers and plants.
“At the time, Jayden was also a Firefighter cadet with the Town,” Hanson said. “He completed his project the weekend of Aug. 19, 2022, and it was dedicated at the Wayside’s annual Volunteer Firefighters Open House, called FireFest, on Sept. 22 of that year.”
