‘We Live Up to Our Commitment to Give Back to the Community’

VFW Post prepares to host Vietnam memorial

This summer, beginning on Thursday, June 25, VFW Post 6418 in St. Albans, West Virginia, will be partaking in an opportunity that Post members and officers have been excited about for a long time: Hosting the mobile Vietnam War memorial “The Moving Wall.”

With a “strong desire through his past experiences,” Post Commander Gerald “Jerry” Mollohan, retired Marine and Vietnam veteran, spearheaded the initiative. After holding a vote at a Post meeting, it was confirmed that Post 6418 will soon be one of the next stops for the Moving Wall.

“Because many of our veterans at Post 6418 and in our community have a strong desire to learn more about ‘The Moving Wall’, this opportunity means we will have touched many lives and lived up to our commitment to give back to the community,” Mollohan said.

Members of Post 6418 have stayed true to their commitment by impacting their local community in a number of ways. Last November, for Veterans Day, the Post hosted the annual Veterans Parade and is excited to host the event again this year on Nov. 7.

The Post also has collected essential items for flood and tropical storm victims, including victims of flooding caused by Tropical Storm Bertha in 2020. Additionally, Post members have collected Christmas toys for children in need, as well as participated in annual Veterans Day ceremonies alongside high school JROTC members.

This year for VFW Day of Service, Post 6418 plans to assist the homeless population by collecting food and clothing donations, as well as aiding in the distribution process.
