Veteran Karen Collins helps local schoolsGeorgetown, South Carolina, veteran Karen Collins was an Army Reservist in seminary for three years before she deployed to Iraq. Today, she is #StillServing as chaplain of VFW Post 6444 and works to expand the Post’s presence in the local community.

A Life member and Post junior vice commander, since November Collins has led a gift-card drive for the nonprofit organization Neighbor to Neighbor and a food drive for Saint Francis Animal Center. Collins also connected with area children by providing a pizza party for the third-grade class that collected the most toilet paper rolls, which workers at Saint Francis stuff with treats for the animals there. And to keep her fellow veterans company, Collins volunteers at the local hospice.

Earlier this year, Collins also led Post 6444’s National VFW Day of Service event, during which members picked up litter along an area road. When asked why she continues to serve in all these ways, Collins said, “It’s my passion to help others.”
