WASHINGTON – The Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States is proud to announce that the VFW Foundation has been given a four-star rating by Charity Navigator, the site’s highest rating.
Founded in 2001, Charity Navigator examines thousands of charities based on financial health and accountability and transparency. Only a quarter of charities rated by Charity Navigator receive a coveted four-star rating.
“It’s truly an honor for the VFW Foundation to be recognized with the highest rating by Charity Navigator, a highly respected charity watchdog,” said VFW National Commander Keith Harman. “We have always prided ourselves on our transparency in our service to veterans, military and their families, and on our high standards of excellence in terms of fiscal and managerial accountability.”
VFW Foundation is the official 501(c)(3) charity of the VFW. As a nonprofit organization, the foundation receives no government funding and relies solely on individual donations and corporation sponsorships. The VFW Foundation exists to support the programs of the VFW, including grants to VFW Posts, Auxiliaries and Departments, scholarships for student veterans, and financial assistance for housing, medical and basic life needs.
“This is our highest possible rating and indicates that your organization adheres to sector best practices and executes its mission in a financially efficient way,” said Michael Thatcher, President and CEO of Charity Navigator. “Attaining a four-star rating verifies that Veterans of Foreign Wars Foundation exceeds industry standards and outperforms most charities in your area of work. This exceptional designation from Charity Navigator sets Veterans of Foreign Wars Foundation apart from its peers and demonstrates to the public its trustworthiness.”
