Members of VFW Post 120 in Garden City Park, New York, set up a booth at a street fair in the Village of New Hyde Park on Long Island, New York.
VFW Post 120 Commander Rich DeMartino said this is the third year the Post has had a presence at the fair.
“We had enough Post members to take shifts manning our table this year,” DeMartino added. “We plan on attending annually.”
Located next to the New Hyde Park Chamber of Commerce booth, DeMartino said the VFW booth was busy.
“The Chamber of Commerce booth attracted more people to our table,” DeMartino said. “We handed out U.S. flags to everyone who stopped at the booth, especially to the young children.”
Members distributed VFW "Buddy"® Poppies and received nearly $300 in contributions. They also talked about the benefits of VFW membership to vets who came by.
Attending the street fair is just one of many ways Post members support the surrounding communities.
Flag Day ceremonies at schools, participating in the Memorial Day parade and sponsoring a high school float are a few of the many community-involved activities Post in which Post 120 partakes.
